MTA Company Limited (SUDAN)
In order to carry out mineral exploration and research activities in the Republic of Sudan, our company was established on May 28, 2018 under the name MTA Company Limited, pursuant to the Ministerial Approval dated March 28, 2018 and numbered 733. On November 22, 2018, a concession agreement was signed between our company and the Government of the Republic of Sudan for the exploration and operation of relevant metallic minerals. Under this agreement, two exploration licenses were obtained in 2018 in Red Sea State, located approximately 850 km northeast of the capital Khartoum and southwest of the city of Port Sudan. The RS4-A license covers an area of 302 km², while the RS7 license covers an area of 1,023 km².
In the RS-7 licensed area, where exploration activities were conducted, the basement consists of Upper Precambrian green schist facies metamorphosed metagranites, metavolcanics, chlorite–quartz–sericite schists, and ophiolitic (serpentinite) units. These basement units are intruded by granites, granodiorites, basaltic, andesitic, and aplitic dykes, as well as diorite–diorite porphyries. Quaternary alluvial deposits are also exposed within the area.
As a result of the survey studies, galena–sphalerite–pyrite ± chalcopyrite-bearing silica–carbonate vein and veinlet-hosted diorite–diorite porphyries intruding into pre-Quaternary units, as well as tectonic zones trending K50D characterized by limonite–hematite, minor malachite, pyrite + chalcopyrite, and silicification, locally revealed Au–Cu mineralization.
Between 2019 and the first half of 2020, the licensed area was investigated through remote sensing, regional geochemistry, detailed geochemistry, airborne geophysics (magnetic, magnetic gradient, radiometric), geological mapping at scales of 1:100,000, 1:25,000, 1:10,000, and 1:5,000, detailed geology, and trenching works.
During the regional and detailed geochemical studies, sediment, soil, and rock geochemistry samples, as well as channel geochemistry samples from trenches, were collected from the licensed area. As gold values up to 24.4 g/t were obtained in these studies, drilling exploration commenced in the second half of 2020.
Between 2020 and 2022, a total of 22,454.30 meters of drilling was carried out across 101 locations within the licensed area. Core samples obtained during the drilling were analyzed for mineralogical–petrographic, XRD, and geochemical studies. The results of core geochemical analyses indicated that no economically viable Au–Ag–Pb–Zn–Cu mineralization source was identified within the RS-7 licensed area. Consequently, the license was relinquished. In the RS-4A licensed area, exploration activities could not be conducted due to the lack of consensus with the local population.
As part of its social responsibility initiatives in Sudan, MTA International Company (MTAIC) drilled water wells and provided water tanks for the benefit of local communities.
Due to security concerns, activities in the country have been suspended.
