Within the framework of the "Cooperation Agreement" signed in 2020 between MTAIC and the Geological and Mining Research Center of Niger (CRGM), MTAIC Niger Mining Limited was established. The company holds a total of three gold exploration licenses: Dar Es Salam-2 and Koulbaga-1 located in the Liptako region, and Emilouag located in the Agadez region.

Dar Es Salam-2 and Koulbaga-1 (Liptako) License Areas:

  • Located in the Liptako region, approximately 120 km northwest of the capital city Niamey.
  • Accessible via the RN-4 highway from Niamey.
  • Situated approximately 10 km from the high-voltage power line.
  • Approximately 130 km from Niamey Diori Hamani International Airport.

Emilouag (Agadez) License Area:

  • Located approximately 150 km northeast of Agadez.

Exploration activities commenced in 2021.

Scope of exploration activities:

  • Geological mapping studies,
  • Geochemical sampling (rock, stream sediment, and soil samples) and anomaly mapping,
  • Geophysical surveys (drone-mag),
  • Trench excavation and sampling,
  • Core drilling activities,
  • Pre-feasibility and feasibility studies have been conducted.

Boubene and Tondia gold mineralizations developed within Birimian rocks and are generally associated with quartz veins along the margins of mafic dykes. The structurally controlled mineralization is concentrated within sheared zones among metasediments, metavolcanics, and intrusive rocks.

Surface and drilling data indicate that the gold mineralization exhibits similarities to shear-hosted orogenic gold deposits. The region includes an oxidation zone several tens of meters thick, along with an alteration zone containing quartz, dolomite, muscovite, tourmaline (dravite), and chlorite (samosite).

Gold Processing Activity

Extensive artisanal mining activities are carried out in the region, covering an area of approximately 2,000 km² with nearly 25,000 miners involved in gold extraction. Most artisanal mining operations are located along the contacts between sedimentary and intrusive rocks.

Field Mapping Activities

Within the Scope of Mapping Studies;

Prior to the commencement of exploration activities, a geological mapping study was conducted in the project area. Within this scope, lithological units, structural elements, alteration zones, and surface mineralization indicators were identified. The obtained data significantly contributed to the understanding of the general geological structure in the field.

Within the Scope of Geochemical Sampling;

During the mapping studies, rock, stream sediment, and soil samples were collected from the designated areas and analyzed in the laboratory. Based on the analysis results, gold anomalies were identified and correlated with geological and structural controls to define potential mineralization zones.

Drone-Mag Geophysical Survey Map

Within the Scope of Geophysical Activities;

A total of 1,200 km of airborne drone-mag geophysical surveys were conducted. This study identified tectonic lineaments and intrusive structures, defining target zones. The airborne magnetic investigations performed with the drone confirmed the intersections of NE-SW and E-W trending faults, which are considered key zones indicating gold mineralization.

Trench Sampling Works
Trench sampling and geological observation

Within the Scope of Trench Activities;

Detailed geological observations and channel sampling were performed along trenches opened over the identified geochemical and geophysical anomalies. These studies clarified the surface continuity, character, and distribution of mineralization, providing a solid data foundation for transitioning from surface to depth.

Within the Scope of Core Drilling Studies;

Based on the integrated evaluation of geological, geochemical, and geophysical data, core drilling operations were initiated in the designated target zones in 2022. The conducted drillings provided comprehensive insights into the vertical continuity, thickness variations, and three-dimensional geometry of the mineralized zones.

Pre-Feasibility Studies

As part of the gold exploration activities conducted in the Tillaberi Region of Niger, geological, geochemical, geophysical, and diamond drilling data were evaluated in accordance with international standards through multidisciplinary approaches. In this context, a geological model of the mineralization was constructed, and the geometry, orientation, and mineralogical characteristics of ore zones were examined in detail.

These studies have formed the foundation of the pre-feasibility stage, contributing to the comprehensive definition of the project’s technical aspects. In addition, preliminary metallurgical tests were carried out to evaluate ore recovery rates and possible refractory characteristics, along with preliminary economic analyses.

Based on the results obtained, the pre-feasibility stage has been successfully completed, providing a solid basis for the transition to the full feasibility phase.

Within the Scope of Feasibility Studies

Following the positive evaluation of pre-feasibility results, detailed feasibility studies have been initiated in the project area. At this stage, an updated ore block model was developed based on drilling data and geological modeling, and QA/QC protocols were implemented to confirm data reliability and accuracy. The geometry, grade distribution, and geotechnical parameters of the mineralization were defined.

During the feasibility stage, block model data were used to assess alternative mining scenarios, and pit optimization studies were conducted. Open-pit and underground mining options were compared in terms of grade, strip ratio, production capacity, and cost parameters to determine the most economically viable mining method.

Additionally, sensitivity analyses and financial modeling were carried out to assess the project's economic robustness against fluctuations in metal prices, operating costs, and capital expenditures.

These comprehensive evaluations have established the technical feasibility, economic sustainability, and investment decision basis for the final feasibility stage of the project.

Sample Preparation and Geochemical Analysis Laboratory

The laboratory is equipped with modern instruments including a crusher, grinder, and oven, along with one Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) device for analytical measurements.

Gold analyses are performed with high precision using Aqua Regia and Leach (cyanide) methods, ensuring reliable and accurate results.

With its capacity and technical expertise, the laboratory is recognized as the only active facility conducting gold analysis in Niger.
